Wayne Kitchener, Chair

Wayne has joined CGD Society as a Trustee to support those affected by a long-term and chronic condition and aims to make a difference using the experience he has gained. Wayne has previously supported several charities in the UK through fundraising and spent time in Africa supporting community and education programmes.

With over 14 year’s experience working as a senior leader within the National Health Service. Wayne has a credible background in developing and delivering large-scale and complex service improvement, redesign, and transformation, along with improving staff and service user experience at both local and regional level.

Wayne also brings with him proven experience around strategy development, governance and system working and has amassed experience leading across a diverse range of healthcare providers including mental health and community, acute, academia, local authority, and NHS England. Wayne became a trustee in September 2023.

 

Alan Keffler, Secretary

Alan is a Professional Engineer and has spent his whole working career in industry helping organisations to operate effectively and efficiently.
He is now focusing on using these skills to support others including CGD Society, who he came across when looking for a trustee role. He was impressed with how professional the charity seemed to be and the amount of information and support provided to help the CGD community. He became a trustee in September 2023 and has had an amazing journey. This has included meeting the Clinical Nurse Specialist that CGD Society fund at Great Ormond Street Hospital and members of the CGD community, that was a real honour. In addition, as Chair of one of the Sub-Committees, Alan is more involved in supporting the work of the charity between the quarterly board meetings.  He is also helping with the developing the charity and its system, to improve Strategy / Operation going forward and enjoying working with other like-minded professionals on the board and the staff team.

Josh Stevens, Treasurer

Josh is a professional accountant within the charitable sector, and joined the board of the CGD Society in June 2024. With 5 years of experience working in the central finance departments of large UK-based charities, Josh is well versed in financial reporting, fundraising administration, and head office operations.  Also, as a person who lives in denim, Josh has fond memories of Jeans 4 Genes campaigns whilst at school and is keen to support the development of the charity's fundraising activities.

 

Chikai Lai, Trustee

Chikai currently holds a director position at a pharmaceutical company. Through his work, he became aware of patient advocacy group community and its critical role in ensuring patient needs are served. He became a trustee in October 2019.

 

 

Luke Byrne, Trustee

Luke is a registered nurse with over 16 years of experience in healthcare, specialising in workforce strategy and operational management. As a newly appointed board member of CGD, Luke brings his expertise to support the charity's mission in enhancing its healthcare delivery and wider links to the community. His background spans various roles within the NHS, with a strong emphasis on community health services and public health initiatives. For the past nine years, Luke has overseen healthcare services across large geographical regions, focusing on optimising clinical governance and implementing large-scale service delivery transformations to ensure the provision of high-quality care, and driving innovations that prepare services to meet future healthcare demands.

 

Ceri Williams, Trustee

Ceri joined CGD Society as a Trustee to use her skills and experience to help those affected by CGD. With over a decade of experience in research funding and strategic programme development, Ceri has proven expertise in developing and implementing forward-thinking scientific research strategies and fostering collaborative partnerships across government, academic, and private sectors. Ceri also brings expertise in governance and risk management. Ceri became a trustee in July 2024.

 

Kumar Perampaladas, Trustee

Kumar joined CGD Society as a Trustee to utilise his training in health economics and experience in the broader life science sector to further advance health outcomes of those affected by CGD. He brings a diverse set of experiences and understanding to CGD including health economics, fundraising, drug reimbursement, evidence strategy, and programme management of early-stage scientific programmes. Kumar became a trustee in July 2024.
